to guiding and outfitting sportsmen and sportswomen. Our camp is located in the Washakie Wilderness of the Shoshone National Forest, southeast of Yellowstone National Park, in northwest Wyoming. Our corrals are located 43 miles south of Cody, Wyoming on the Southfork of the Shoshone River. Our camp consis ts of wall tents, all with propane lanterns, log beds, big comfortable mattresses and wood stoves. Our heated shower tent is a warm welcome after a hard day of hunting and riding. The camp cook prepares hearty, family style meals in the big cook tent wh ile hunters and guides tell the stories of the days hunt. Specific Hunt Information Spring Bear
We hunt Black Bears in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. Bear season runs May 1 - June 15. We take only 6 bear hunters a year. This insures a high success rate on harvesting big bears. Success runs about 100% in seeing one or more bears. We hold exclusive outfitter privileges and bear bait permits from the Wyoming Game & Fish Department and the U.S. Forest Service. It is very rare to see another hunter in this area. Be prepared to do some horseback riding - camp is six miles from the nearest road. Archery Elk Our archery elk season runs from September 1 to September 30. This is the majestic bugle season. Our archery elk hunts are true wilderness experiences and not for the half-hearted hunter. Your physical condition will determine how much your guide can do with you. Our archery elk hunts are 8 days with 1 hunter per guide. Success varies from year to year. Shooting success at bulls 40 yards or less has averaged around 75% in the past 18 years with the harvest depending on the hunters. We take 4 bowhunters per hunt. The Wyoming Game & Fish Deparment has 25 "archery only" tags set aside for this area. Archery tags are almost guaranteed. These hunts fill up quickly so book early. Late Season Elk
November 1-30 is our late elk season. This is when the big bulls migrate out of the high fall range and out of Yellowstone National Park down to the winter range. It is not uncommon to see herds of 100-200 elk. This is the time of year when the chance of getting a really big bull are high. Success on these hunts is near 100%. Rifle Elk General rifle elk season runs October 1-21. We run an 8 day hunt with one hunter per guide as the rule. We take 5-6 hunters per hunt, depending on the drawing. Hunting will vary from calling in bulls, to glassing and stalking, to still hunting through timber. Lots of horseback riding, day and night, and walking are usually required. Cow Elk We run 5 day cow elk hunts during the month of November. Cow tags are easy to get and hunters always fill. If you are hunting for meat, this is the hunt for you. Our hunts start on Monday and end on Friday. We are very flexible on the dates of this hu nt. Moose Our Moose season runs September 1 to November 15. We hunt moose from our base elk camp, located in moose area 31. You will be hunting the Wyoming or Shiras Moose. Moose may be taken with a gun or bow. The chance for a record book bull taken with a bow is very good.
Bighorn Sheep Our sheep season runs August 15-October 20. We hunt sheep in areas 1-5, mainly hunting area 4. Sheep are hunted out of our base camp or in spike camp. We only take a few sheep hunters a year. The success rate on our hunters harvesting a mature ram is nearly 100%. Sheep hunting is a physically demanding hunt. This requires our hunters to be in top shape. Professional Wilderness Elk Guide/Packer School & Professional Camp Cook School Bliss Creek Outfitters will teach you to be a successful archery elk guide and packer or camp cook. Both guides and cooks are in great demand. The Bliss Creek School is a hands-on school with a maximum of 10 students. You will learn the art of guiding and packing by doing it, not just talking about it, or watching us do it. Bliss Creek Professional Wilderness Elk Guide and Packer School specializes in teaching the student to guide for elk. Elk hunting is the "bread & butter" of most outfits. We will also be concentrating on bowhunting. In our opinion, successful elk hunting, especially with a bow and arrow, is the toughest hunting there is. We will teach you what it takes to be successful. Call or write for our full brochure on our Wilderness Elk Guide or Camp Cook School. |
