SPRING BEAR HUNTS
Spring
Black Bear hunts are in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. The season
runs May 1
- June 15 with the best time to hunt
being late May thru June.
The
Wyoming Game & Fish Department has implemented a female
quota system. The season will close at the seasoning ending
date or
when the quota has been reached.
We
take only 2 hunters per hunt and 6 bear hunters
a year. This insures a high success rate on harvesting big bears.
Success
runs about
100% in seeing one or more bears. Most black
bears
taken are mature boars,
many of which have qualified for the Pope & Young
Record Book. 50% of the all bears taken are color phased bears.
We
hold an outfitter permit from the Big Horn National
Forest and bear bait permits from the Wyoming
Game & Fish
Department.
It is very rare to see another hunter
in this area. We hunt over baits at 6000
to 9000 feet. Some bait-stations have been set up for over 30 years.
Be
prepared to do some horseback riding - our pack-in tent camp is located
six miles from the nearest road. Camp is located at 7000 feet. Expect
cold nights and warm days.
